Overview of NTSCORP Operations

Dr Ken Lum, Head of Operations, is responsible for NTSCORP Operations and the Research, Community Facilitation and Land Tenure and Notifications divisions within NTSCORP.

Mr Damien Bidjara-Barnes, General Counsel, is responsible for providing legal advice to the company and for the provision of native title and related legal advice provided to Traditional Owners by the Legal division.

Together with the Corporate Services and Executive Services divisions, these are the driving forces that deliver services to benefit Traditional Owners in NSW and the ACT.

A dedicated Project Team is allocated in each matter represented by NTSCORP, comprising of:

  • a Solicitor
  • a Community Facilitator
  • an Anthropologist
  • an Historian
  • a Finance Officer

During the current reporting period there have been 34 matters in which NTSCORP has either provided representation, actively assisted to develop or affect agreements, or performed other functions of a NTRB. Each matter is allocated a unique NTSCORP reference number.

The 2008-2009 operational plan was developed by the CEO and executive team following intensive operational planning with all staff and relevant stakeholders. All of staff planning meetings, team meetings and collaborative reporting processes and reviews of operational objectives and budgets were undertaken throughout the year to better identify key short-term, mid-term and long-term objectives.

NTSCORP performs its NTRB functions in both NSW and the ACT and in order to provide effective services across this large region NTSCORP has established seven regional areas of responsibility for operational staff. The dedicated regions ensure that native title and future act issues and enquiries that arise, and which do not necessarily relate to a current native title matter, can be addressed by staff with a clear understanding of the regional issues. The Regions are:

  • North Coast Region
  • Central Coast Region
  • South Coast Region
  • Northern Central Region
  • Central Region
  • Southern Central Region
  • Western Region
